Journaling can be a daunting habit to pick up - especially when the thought of writing in a blank notebook empties all the thoughts from your mind. While that in itself might be beneficial if you’re prone to overthinking, here are a few journal prompts that you can get started with.
Keep in mind that these are prompts that you can use on a daily basis to check-in with yourself or to give yourself a little self-care. Choose one or more prompts that resonates with you or that you want to write about on a given day. Come back in the future and we’ll post additional blogs with prompts specific to self-esteem, self-discovery & more. Let’s dive in:
- What was one thing today that brought you joy or that you were grateful for? Write about it in detail - what happened, how did you feel?
- What is one thing you are worried about? Does your worrying help you resolve or prepare for the situation in any way? Are there any actions you can take that might help the situation?
- What is one thing your body allowed you to do today that you can be grateful for?
- Who is someone you appreciate in your life & why? When is the last time you told them so?
- Be your best friend. What words do you need to hear today?
- What is one thing you can do that would make your life a little easier? Why haven’t you done it yet?
- What is something you want to do? Write a plan on how you could make it happen.
- How are you feeling these days? Why?
- What is something you love about yourself?
- What is something you learned or experienced that you hadn’t known before? Is there something new you would like to learn or try?
These are 10 prompts to get you started. As you go through them note the prompts you resonate with, which prompts feel more difficult to answer, or perhaps which prompts you find yourself learning about yourself from. You can always continue to use these prompts, or expand from the prompts if they give you new ideas about things you’d like to write about or explore.
And if you find yourself still struggling with a blank notebook, there are always guided journals like our Self journal you can explore as well. Just note that different guided journals achieve different purposes - some might be for self-discovery, while others like Self might be for general self-care and building self-esteem. Pick the journal that feels right for you.
Happy journaling!
